Layla - Our resident foster mom. ❤️
Layla came from a breed mill where she lived in a dog crate and had a litter of puppies before she was a year old. We believe that her puppies were taken from her shortly after their birth because of the way she acts around baby animals here at the sanctuary. Anytime we have a sick, injured, or newborn animal, Layla is quick to lend a helping paw and oversee our quality of care. She is still learning how to "dog", but she's made a lot of progress since joining us. Her kind and gentle heart has definitely stolen a piece of ours.

Onyx - Our Livestock Guardian Dog
Onyx was deemed too aggressive to adopt by the shelter where she previously lived. Being an Anatolian Shepherd, she doesn't do well in a small enclosed area, especially constantly inside. Her breed was originally developed in the hilly regions of Turkey to protect livestock from predators like wolves and bears. After consulting with the only two employees Onyx trusted to enter her kennel, we agreed she’d thrive in our Kelly’s Kennels program. She has exceeded all expectations, alerts to predators, yet calm, gentle, and responsive enough for our supervised four-year-old to handle.
