Momma Sue was the original rescuer. For over 23 years, she worked tirelessly, often putting in extra hours to make sure animals in need had a loving home. Dogs, cats, birds, horses—you name it. If they needed help, she never said no, as long as we could provide the care they deserved.
Following her example, Alexus (her daughter) and Roy (her son-in-law) decided to carry on her mission and take it to the next level. After the Covid pandemic, we saw more and more animals in desperate need of safe homes. Many had special challenges that traditional shelters just couldn’t handle. That’s when we knew we had to do something bigger. We filed for our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status so we could give these animals the care and second chances they deserve.
That’s how The Hartly Meadows Foundation began—a place where animals that other shelters overlook can finally find the stable, fulfilling home to live the rest of their lives.
